MYSORE: Changing with the times, the government has conceptualized many e-governance projects. What it requires for better implementation is trained manpower. In that perspective, offering the right training is city's Mahajana's PG Centre.
The one-year post-graduate diploma in e-governance helps candidates understand the system of e-governance and builds manpower that can design and conceptualize e-governance projects, not just in government but in private sectors too.
The e-governance course was sanctioned to the institute by the UGC in 2007. It is the only institute in Mysore that offers the post-graduate programme, which prepares the students for the administration sector.
Calling e-governance the order of the day, Mahajana Post Graduate Centre director C R Renukarya says, "e-governance enables the use of communication technologies like internet and cellphones by both the government and private sectors to promote effective service delivery. Hence, the academic programme will prove useful for students from all disciplines, particularly those who are already in administration, more so to the zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat functionaries, who are required to transact online with the government."
Programme co-coordinator and assistant professor at the centre Rachana CR explains, "Granted to the institute by UGC, the PG diploma was started under the innovative programme scheme in 2007. The programme is beneficial to those serving or wanting to serve in the administrative sector, for it also gives them a proficiency in the subject of computer science. We have students from all disciplines and some working professionals who aim to serve in the field of government-IT and e-governance sectors."
Some of the subjects taught through the two semesters include: public administration and entrepreneurship development, introduction to e-governance, e-governance architecture, data base, data warehousing, information systems, design and analysis, software engineering and testing and e governance applications. At the end of the programme, the students are required to undertake a project work.
The students who obtain this PG degree will have an added degree, to get suited to any corporate or administrative sector, which practices e-governance.
